Today we will be revealing our top 5 detox drinks for weight loss. But first, let’s get the basics out of the way. The primary aim of detoxification is to cleanse your body of the toxins that have accumulated over time. But there’re other surprising benefits of detoxing, like slowing down the signs of ageing, shiner hair and cleaner skin, stronger immune system, more energy etc. and of course weight loss.

Detoxification and weight loss seem to go hand in hand.

In our daily lives, we take in a lot of toxins that get deposited on the fat cells and lead to weight gain.  Detoxification focuses on cleansing the liver, blood, and kidneys, and helps to boost your energy and metabolism. Due to the increased metabolism, your body will burn more fat and result in more weight loss. If you would like to find out ways to increase your metabolism, read “Ways to boost metabolism for weight loss“.

Can you really lose weight by detoxification?

At first glance, the idea that you can detox to lose weight sounds too good to be true, almost like those claims we see on emerging supplements blogs and health magazines. So, before we head to recommending some of our favorite detox drinks, let’s have a look at what science says on this matter.

Admittedly, there’re a few detox weight loss studies that offer mixed results on this topic, but most them have come up with positive conclusions. Generally, weight loss as a result of detoxification seems to happen more indirectly. Users often report an increase in energy and reduced appetite (1).

How detoxification affects your weight

The obvious effect of reduced appetite due to detoxification is reduced calorie intake. Weight loss is primarily about how many calories you consume versus how many you burn. If you’re able to burn more calories than you consume, you expect positive results within a reasonably short term. The increased energy levels also equip you with enough fuel to stay active and undertake various workouts. Check out best workouts for weight loss.

Detoxification also flushes toxins out of your body. Some unhealthy people have accumulated additional pounds from the toxins alone. A detoxification will eliminate most of the body impurities and shed off a few pounds that come with toxins.

In addition to that, some ingredients in the detoxification recipes have the ability to induce thermogenesis (Thermogenesis is the process of heat production in organisms. It occurs in all warm-blooded animals) in your body which results in increased calorie burn.

The ability of a drink to contribute to weight loss depends on the ingredients used. Some natural compounds that are used in detox juices do aid with fat loss.

Cayenne peppers, for instance, is one such ingredient. The main compound in pepper, known as capsaicin, has been shown to have thermogenic properties. This essentially means that it can accelerate your metabolism and potentially suppress your appetite (2).

That said, here are our favourite 5 detox drinks for weight loss:
